Vintage anything has become quite "hip" these days. It seems that more and more people are getting into the past..so to speak.
I now own a store called Just-in-Time Vintage and Consignment. What started out as a vintage store has quickly become more consignment than vintage, which is a bummer! Don't get me wrong, I am so blessed to have everyone bring me their wonderful items to sell but a part of me was hoping I could make a living on getting and selling vintage clothing, accessories and knick-knacks. I couldn't or maybe I could have. I say this because most of my truly vintage items didn't make it very long. They were quickly scooped up by dealers, collectors, etc.
Trying to find true vintage has been somewhat of a challenge also. I meet a lot of people through the store, who are from all over. I recently met a young woman and her mom, who love vintage clothing. They were from California. They came here to pick up as many vintage pieces of clothing that they could and take them back and sell them. I was astonished to hear about what the going rate was on a "Kay Windsor" dress out in California..$100 and up. I have had several and sold them for around $25. I guess that was a buyers dream. I will know next time if I get more in the store.
I guess the thrill for me is going to a yard sale, goodwill, church sale, etc. and finding something I think is vintage and finding out I was totally spot on. I guess this is my quest, haha, and I must continue on.
Oh and what am I reading these days. That would be Anti-Inflammation Zone by Barry Sears. My mind is young but my body is aging...just a wee bit!

I love to go to yard sales  and find a great old book to read. Some of my favorite books have been the ones that cost .50 or less. Recently, I found a classic, "The Old Man and the Sea" by Ernest Hemingway. I read this a long time ago but I never really enjoyed it until I found this book and read it slowly and actually could feel myself at the places he describes. AWESOME!

Vintage Thoughts on Modern Thinking is a random idea that came to me as I was working on some of the new books that I am ordering for the Pop titles section in the library. Many of the books are what most readers would call 'bubble gum reading" or "easy reading". I have always thought that this was a good thing because so many people read to escape into something new and exciting or old and enchanting. Why anyone would want reading to be a chore or a challenge is beyond me on so many levels. This blog was created today by me for the sole purpose of discussing, talking, and just plain exploring the modern world of teen/adult fiction reading with a bit of excitement, joy and vintage nostalgia. Oh what I am reading now....that would be "50 Shades of Grey" and "Wool". I will let you know what I think on my next blog.
TA-DA and good day :)
